Foundation Academy students recently traveled to Haiti on a mission  to distribute hundreds of Christmas shoeboxes which they had  collected. They were traveling with New Missions, an organization who  has actively worked in Haiti since 1983. A trip that began as a small  way to minister to Haitian children turned into something much  greater when, on January 12th, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the  nation.

The group began working immediately giving out food and water  to the victims and prayed for each person with whom they came in  contact for the next three days. Finally, on the fourth day they were  airlifted by Blackhawk helicopters and taken to the US Embassy in  Santo Domingo in a dramatic and miraculous rescue mission. From there  they boarded a private plane and returned to OIA early Saturday morning.

As miraculous as their rescue was, their hearts are heavy for all  those left behind in the devastated country of Haiti. Wes Murray and  Jackie Novick, two Foundation Academy seniors, along with students  Jesse Johnson and Erin Emanuel, returned with incredible stories of  survival and God's grace. They look forward to many return trips.

Foundation Academy plans to continue efforts to collect needed items  such as food, water and donations to send to the people of Haiti.
