What is Chiropractic?
When discussing Chiropractic with Dr. Kurtis Michaux, a Chiropractic
Physician and owner of Michaux Family Chiropractic (MFC) in Clermont,
he sites several common questions. "We are often asked, 'What
do Chiropractors do?' 'Are they safe?' 'Does it hurt?' 'Are they
doctors?'" In his explanation, since space is limited, he suggests
his free website after reading this article for more detailed information:

Chiropractors are licensed physicians in all 50 states of the US.
They receive a Doctorate of Chiropractic degree (DC) from federally
accredited colleges. DC's receive extensive education similar to
medical doctors and osteopaths. They are considered Primary Health
Care Providers, so often no referral is needed. They are recognized
by governmental health programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and
the U.S. Military. Most private insurance companies cover care as
well.
College requirements include a 4 yr. Bachelors Degree with prerequisites
such as Biochemistry, Physics, Anatomy, and more. Then they attend
a federally accredited Chiropractic college for 4-5 additional years
that teaches essentially the same classes as medical doctors, just
much less medication and surgery courses and more conservative approaches.
As for a typical visit, they perform a consultation, history,
comprehensive exam with neurological and orthopedic tests, posture
analysis and more. Often x-rays are taken when medically necessary
to increase safety and determine the extent of the problem. Other
lab tests and imaging such as MRI's may be ordered.
Once they make their diagnosis, a thorough explanation is given.
Upon consent, treatment can begin and may consist of Spinal Manipulation
(Chiropractic Adjustments), exercises, rehab, massage, nutritional
counseling, home recommendations and more. Chiropractic treatment
is very safe when done by a licensed Chiropractic Physician. Most
feel great quickly, some more advanced issues may include minor
soreness, like working out.
Athletes get regular care to keep them at the top of their game,
examples include Emmitt Smith, Evander Holyfield, and Tiger Woods.
Chiropractic care is safe and cost effective, for all ages, infants
through seniors. Treatment can be for car accidents, injuries, neck
or back pain, arthritis, sciatica, disc problems, ear infections,
colic, and more. The major difference between them and an orthopedist
or neurologist is instead of using drugs and surgery to treat the
symptoms, Chiropractors use conservative methods to fix the cause
of the problem. Symptoms usually go away quickly. Very often, Chiropractors
co-manage a patient with their medical doctor who provides meds
and then the chiropractor will treat the cause.
So in conclusion, if you suffer form a chronic ailment, a new
issue or injury or if you just want to improve your level of health,
give chiropractic a try. The most important thing is don't allow
anyone other than a licensed Chiropractic Physician adjust your
spine.
